It’s no secret that Billie Eilish is a highly regarded and extremely talented singer-songwriter, but her love life has always been something of a mystery to her fans. According to the rumors that have been going around lately, we finally seem to know who the boyfriend Eilish broke up with after having a dream about Christian Bale.
When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? hitmaker disclosed that several years ago, she dreamed of Bale in a bright “little cafe”. For whatever reason, the dream was causing her to immediately realize that she should break up with her then-partner. She said, (via YouTube)
“I got to be real. A couple years ago I had a dream about Christian Bale and it was at a little cafe in the sunlight, and it made me realize that I had to break up with my boyfriend. No, like genuinely. I woke up [cue her pretending to open her eyes] and I came to my senses. It’s over.”
Many fans have speculated that the mysterious ex-boyfriend in question is Jesse Rutherford, the lead singer of the band The Neighbourhood. While neither Eilish nor Rutherford have confirmed or denied the rumors, there are some pretty convincing clues that point to him as the likely candidate.
That is her only recent breakup that we are aware of. Their romance lasted one year, from October 2022 to May 2023. Because of their 10-year age difference, which they catered to on Halloween by having Rutherford dress like an elderly man and Eilish dress like a baby, the ex-couple received criticism for their romance (see NY Post).

Jesse Rutherford, a talented musician and former actor, may have piqued Billie Eilish’s interest with his endearing smile and infectious personality. The two quickly became friends, sharing a passion for music and art.
Defying her private relationship rule, the Lovely singer dated Rutherford, lead singer of the alt-rock group, The Neighbourhood. But this pairing also sparked controversy among fans.
After falling in love at the neighborhood restaurant Crossroads Kitchen, the couple ignited romance rumors in October 2022 when they were seen kissing in Los Angeles and on a date night. The photos were published by Entertainment Tonight. The outlet was informed by a witness that
“It definitely seemed like a date and they stayed there for three hours … Billie touched the back of Jesse’s head for a long time, he kissed her on the cheek, and they both kissed on the lips.”
Regardless, there is conjecture that she ended their relationship because she had a dream about Christian Bale. Perhaps her other alleged romances can also be taken into consideration.
From 2021 to 2022, she also dated Matthew Tyler Vorce; however, the two broke up over alleged infidelity. In images obtained by Page Six, Eilish wrapped her arm around Vorce’s waist and rested her head on his shoulder while he gave her a neck massage.
Later, on his Instagram Story, Vorce—who is also ten years older than the nine-time Grammy winner—denied rumors of infidelity. He wrote this back then (via Harper’s BAZAAR):
“Nobody cheated on anyone. Relationships end. Simple as that. Creating rumors and LYING on the internet is dangerous.”
