The Diablo 4 Lunar Awakening event that took place over the weekend was expected, but no one expected it to be as lackluster as it was. The idea was to give players the chance to liberate Lunar Shrines and gain some exclusive gear in the process.

Players would need to defeat hordes of spirits protecting the shrines while being empowered by powerful shrine buffs. On completing the event, players could earn cosmetic and gold rewards, legendary caches, and Nightmare Dungeon Sigils However, it seems not everything went as smoothly as planned.

What Went Wrong with the Diablo 4 Lunar Awakening Event?

While live events usually give some great gear, Lunar Awakening's offerings were average to say the least
While live events usually give some great gear, Lunar Awakening’s offerings were average, to say the least.

As with many other live-service games, the event took place on Saturday, February 10, 2024, to celebrate the Lunar New Year. However, it seems Blizzard missed the mark with this event, just as they did with their previous Christmas event. While the Christmas event was criticized for being too grindy, the Lunar Awakening event was far too short. With the right strategy, you could complete the entire event in a little over an hour.

Events like these usually offer the player some exclusive gear that can be used in the base game. Sadly, you would not be able to use the gear acquired through this event if your character was not of the right class. It required players to create an entirely new, seasonal character, claim the rewards, and then delete the character. Two of the promised cosmetic rewards were also reported to be missing from the event altogether.

The Lunar Shrine buff gives a +50% XP bonus, but that is only for the duration that the shrine is active, which lasts just a meager 30 seconds. So, if you felt you could level up your Diablo 4 character substantially throughout the event, you would have been very disappointed. The shrines themselves are not the easiest to find in the open world. The map shows only a general area of the shrine, and Shrine Dungeons feature only 1-2 shrines in the entire area.

Diablo 4’s Lunar Awakening Event left a lot to be Desired

Diablo 4‘s Lunar Awakening event did not impress fans with its rewards and duration.

The event’s main goal appears to be selling the Lunar Awakening armor sets in the shop, which retail for $20 each. Players report that the Lunar markings are a worthwhile reward and, given the short length of the event, can be obtained with very little effort. There are also some decent rewards to be earned for your horse, even if they won’t be easily visible under all the armor.

Overall, there are 20 rewards to earn in the event, and half of them are gold bundles, which don’t do much to pad out your coffers. This isn’t great news for a game whose third season was initially received very poorly by fans. While the sentiments on that are shifting thanks to a patch, this event is not going to help win them over any time soon.
