Roman Reigns is now one of the top wrestlers in WWE, perhaps the biggest ever after the likes of John Cena and Dwayne Johnson. The current face of the organization, he is recently being pitched against his cousin Johnson, for what the latter referred to as a would-be greatest WrestleMania match in history.
While he may be pitched against The Rock, he was widely hailed as the next John Cena in his initial days. And as fate would have it, fans have been guilty of treating the reigning WWE champion exactly like they treated Cena despite Reign saving WWE with the Tribal Chief storyline.
WWE Fans Guilty Of Treating Roman Reigns The Same Way They Treated John Cena
When Roman Reigns started out as a WWE wrestler, there were certainly many things ‘off’ with him. From cringe promos to him being allegedly pushed to the front too many times, they found numerous things to hate him about (via The Sportster). However, just a few years after he made his debut, Reigns has been incredible and, as fans say, has been literally carrying the whole industry on his back.
In recent years, his Tribal Chief/ Bloodline storyline has been vital in reviving the craze around WWE and drawing fans toward the sport again (via Instagram). The dominant champion has, in a short while, left an indelible mark on the history of WWE and continues to do so (see BBN Times). Popularly called The Head of the Table, Reigns has inevitably been slandered and bad-mouthed a lot by WWE fans for the exact same reasons he is famous for (via X).
However, it wasn’t just him who had to go through such a dark period of time, for before him the Peacemaker star, John Cena too faced the wrath of fans for more or less the same reasons. While fans have since changed their opinions, there is no question that both WWE champions deserved a far better treatment than the one they received early in their careers.
Peacemaker Star John Cena Too Was Brutally Slandered By Fans
The 16-time world champion, John Cena, is a beloved figure in the world of wrestling and cinema now. Known for being extremely down-to-earth and generous, he was once one of the most hated figures in the history of WWE.
Just like Roman Reigns, he too was disliked by fans for being over-pushed, for allegedly stealing other’s spotlight and winning too much, and also for leaving the sport to pursue a career in Hollywood and so much more (via The Sportster). While he is among the most-liked wrestlers now, the star was brutally slandered by fans back in the day for a variety of other reasons (see Reddit).
However, Cena, being the gentleman he is, has little to no care and has been doing splendidly in his career. The former wrestler will next star in Peacemaker season two, which is almost complete, as James Gunn recently revealed. (via Threads) Although it won’t be released until after Superman: Legacy and the details of it haven’t been revealed yet, fans are excited for Cena for doing so well in his acting career.
