Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., and Cillian Murphy are all on cloud nine due to the massive success of Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer. In her interview for People’s Oscar portfolio, Blunt shared that she was so happy that she had been feeling lighter than air. The nomination is yet to fully sink in for the Edge of Tomorrow actress. Emily Blunt has earlier won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in Television for Gideon’s Daughter and a SAG Best Actress Award for A Quiet Place. Her Oppenheimer co-stars praised her talent during the interview.

Robert Downey Jr. may have hurt the sentiments of the British people when he shared that he didn’t see many British aspects in her. He shared that she was optimistic and never talked smack about anyone. The Sherlock Holmes actor shared with People:

“Blunt is one of the most naturally disposed to being an optimist, while being real about things. And also it’s really weird, because you don’t see a lot of Brit in her. I’m not saying because you’re so cool, but you have an equanimity and a balance — you almost never talk smack about anyone.”

The part about British people was clearly intended as a joke and he even teased her about it. Cillian Murphy also agreed that Blunt never gossiped about anyone on set. Downey Jr. further joked that she should work on that skill to keep things interesting, to which Blunt responded that she would work on her smack-talking.

Emily Blunt Is A Proud British Woman

Despite Robert Downey Jr.’s insults, it is an open fact that Emily Blunt is a proud Britisher. On an earlier episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she was so offended by her kids losing their British accent. She shared that her daughter Hazel would pronounce ‘water’ with an American accent which she hated.

However, during another 2020 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Blunt revealed that her kids had regained their British accents after joining a London school. She shared that they now had the craziest British accent and that she was completely over the moon about it. Blunt shared with Jimmy Kimmel Live!:

“Miraculously, they’re sounding quite British, which I’m completely over the moon about. My little one sent me a video, well she didn’t actually send it but someone sent it, of her singing ‘Jingle Bells,’ and she goes, ‘Jingle ol’ da waye!’ Almost like a Cockney. It was almost like Dick Van Dyke singing ‘Jingle Bells.’ The craziest accent ever — it was kind of brilliant.”

In her People interview, she revealed that she and her husband John Krasinski had a good cry after they learned that she got the nod from the Academy for the role. Oppenheimer is now available for streaming on Peacock Premium. The 96th Academy Awards will take place at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, on March 10, 2024.
