Since the film’s initial announcement back in 2023, quite a few fans have been doubting if Anthony Mackie’s Captain America: Brave New World would actually live up to the legacy that Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers left behind. Well, turns out it just might, as Mackie clarified through his most recent statement on the 2025-release window scheduled film.
According to the Sam Wilson portrayer’s statement, the upcoming would be a lot different than what fans are expecting, considering how it is a “clear reset.” Then there’s the fact revealed by Mackie that the film would be “10 times bigger” than his series with The Winter Soldier, which just makes Harrison Ford’s MCU debut film all the more interesting.
Anthony Mackie Calls His Next MCU Film a “Clear reset”
The recently held CinemaCon in Las Vegas was a blockbuster of an event, considering how it even brought about a sneak peek into Anthony Mackie‘s next project for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his first solo film as the new ‘Cap’. But what was more interesting were all the insights the actor himself shared about the movie.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly during the event, he revealed how this film is not only different and new but also “10 times bigger” than The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He said:
“One of the biggest conversations we had from the beginning was for this not to be Falcon and the Winter Soldier — Part 2, for this to be its own movie with its own story, with its own characters.”
That being said, the film also marks the official debut of Harrison Ford in the MCU as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, which will truly be nothing short of iconic.
“This movie is a clear reset. It really reestablishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be,” Mackie continued.
But those aren’t the only reasons why this 2025-scheduled film is so distinctive and special from all the other projects.
According to what the Twisted Metal star shared, this next movie gives a “clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards” as they previously displayed through the second installment in the film series, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Then there are all the more gripping aspects that this new film will present that make it all the more evident that Brave New World just might be a lot better than what many are expecting.
Brave New World is “More of a grounded espionage action movie”
Besides being the first official movie where he fully embodies his role and responsibilities as Cap, the upcoming installment in Capt. America’s film series is also “more of a grounded espionage action movie” instead of “aliens and airplanes coming through portals and s—.”
That being said, it provides Mackie’s Sam Wilson the opportunity “to really establish himself as a true action star and Avenger.”
Yet, that’s not all, for the mere title of this movie further implies that “there’s a new, bigger enemy now” and a “new frontier that we have to conquer.”
As Mackie liked to describe it:
“From The First Avenger to Endgame, the enemy was always good versus bad. Now that we’ve conquered that, where do we go from here? When the bad guys reappear, in what form are they reappearing? It is a new storyline with new characters, with new beliefs, and it creates a new idea of this new world that we’re going into.”
All in all, it seems like this next MCU project just might right all the wrongs to provide the epic action movie that fans had been looking forward to all along.
That being said, Captain America: Brave New World currently holds a scheduled release date of February 14, 2025.
