Tragedy has struck on the set of DC Universe’s Titans.
A stunt crew member was killed during a stunt after he was struck by a heavy object.
Sources close to the production have reported that the show’s special effects coordinator died during filming in Toronto on Thursday.
The accident took place at a test facility where the production crew was perfecting the stunt they had been planning to perform for the show.
The stunt that they were attempting to execute was a car flipping on its side. They were able to get the car to flip over, but a piece of metal from some nearby machinery that was attached to the car flew off.
The stunt coordinator was standing nearby when the loose piece of metal hit him in the head. EMTs evacuated him from the facility via a stretcher and were transporting to a nearby hospital. The EMTs reported that he had passed away en route.
The production crew has confirmed that production will be shut down for 2 days while the Canadian Ministry of Labour investigates the incident.
Warner Bros. Television issued a public statement regarding the coordinator’s death:
“We are heartbroken and devastated by the passing of our treasured colleague, special effects coordinator Warren Appleby, after an accident which occurred at a special effects facility during the preparation and testing for an upcoming shoot. Warren is beloved by all who worked with him during an impressive 25-year career in television and motion pictures. The executive producers, along with everyone, in the Titans family, Warner Bros. Television Group and DC Universe, wish to express our deepest condolences, and heartfelt love and support, to Warren’s family and friends at this most difficult time.”
It is currently unknown if this will delay the premiere for Titans season 2, which is reportedly coming in late September or early October.
Titans stars Brenton Thwaites as Richard “Dick” Grayson / Robin, Anna Diop as Koriand’r / Starfire, Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth / Raven, and Ryan Potter as Garfield “Gar” Logan / Beast Boy.
