It took a couple of years for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree to show up in front of the players and it was worth it. The new trailer dropped on 21 February 2024, keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats. The downloadable content (DLC) will be available as the game’s extension from 21 June 2024 as announced in the video.
For now, the glimpse of the extension has piqued the curiosity about the upcoming content in the game. From new locations to mystical creatures, players can expect a stunner from FromSoftware given the history of the studio. Interestingly, the long-awaited appearance of Miquella of Haligtree is due in the upcoming DLC.
The Cocoon in Elden Ring Was a ‘Portal’ to The Land of Shadow
The community is brewing with several questions regarding the game’s extension, many of which might have been answered by the game’s director Hidetaka Miyazaki. In his latest interview with the videogame and entertainment media website IGN, he explained several concepts, one of them being Miquella’s cocoon which is actually the entrance to the Land of Shadow. He said,
The cocoon and arm you saw at the beginning of the trailer – this is actually the point of entry to the Land of Shadow where the players will enter to the DLC area. And this does have some relation to Miquella. And Miquella has, as we said, traveled to the Land of Shadow.
In the game, Miquella is kidnapped by Mohg, a boss players encounter in the story. Up until now, the only thing the community knew was that the hand coming out of the cocoon was Miquella’s. Now they know he has traveled to the new Land.
Moreover, as opposed to the expectations of several fans, he won’t be the final boss in Shadow of the Erdtree, but a demigod called Messmer.
Tarnished Appears to be Learning New Skills All This Time
Apart from new locations and entities, players will likely be seeing Tarnished wielding new powers that weren’t available in the base game. Bandai Namco’s official page says, “Take on the threat with the new powers you can acquire.” If the players have watched Shadow of the Erdtree closely, they can see the character performing martial arts-like moves in the gameplay.
Moreover, Miyazaki explained in another interview that this is the “largest expansion to date in terms of overall volume” by FromSoftware. Regarding the map’s size, he says that “in terms of scale or size, it’s probably comparable, if not larger, than the area of Limgrave from the base game.”
The game has already sold over 20 Million copies globally, making it among the bestsellers for Bandai Namco. As of now, Pac-Man holds the top spot with 64.5 Million copies sold.
