Avatar 3: All 6 Villains That May Appear in The Seed Bearer

Featured Video

After the global phenomenon that was Avatar: The Way of Water, all eyes are on Avatar 3. Avatar 2 beat all expectations as didn’t just reach $2 billion, but went way beyond and became the third biggest movie of all time. Hence, it is obvious that there is a sizable market for future Avatar movies and Disney plans to take advantage of it with Avatar 3.

In the transition from Avatar to The Way of Water, Jimmy Cameron added a completely new clan to go along with an increased number of bad guys. There was only one big bad in part 1, but Avatar 2 required an upgrade. As a result, Quaritch was elevated to Recom-Quaritch, and two additional villains him.

But Avatar 3 could double down and possibly have 6 villains in total, who are all listed below.

Every Villain To Appear In Avatar 3

The Fire Na’vi Clan

The Fire Clan of Ash People

Since James Cameron has portrayed humans as villains, we have only seen the Na’vi as heroes till now. But the director confirmed that there are bad Na’vi who exist on Pandora and Avatar 3 will bring them to the forefront as a fresh set of antagonists called the Ash People.

In an interview with the French publication 20 Minutes, Cameron stated that the Fire Na’vi Clan will be introduced in a negative light. Just as the Metkayina clan was placed around water, the fiery Ash People would belong to a volcanic biome, having adapted to those surroundings. Their leader named Varang will be played by Game of Thrones’ Oona Chaplin.

While speaking with Inverse Avatar 3 producer Jon Landau also confirmed that the Ash people will have different skin colors as he said:

“There [are] also going to be, as we did with the Metkayina and the Omatikaya, different skin colors, because that’s part of our world, [and] we look at what we’re doing as a metaphor for our world.”

The Metkayina’s skin tone was lighter, and their body features also differed. Similarly, we could predict that the Ash people would have grey skin. It’s the same as how people on Earth have different skin colors.

Recom-Quaritch

Recombinant Quarictch

Quaritch’s Na’vi clone pledged that he would never stop coming after Jake and Neytiri. So, it is obvious that he won’t continue his pursuit of revenge in Avatar 3. But how will he be incorporated with the Ash People?

Since Jake and the others got improved by following the way of water, it’s possible that Quaritch would receive his much-needed upgrade by following the way of fire. He has already suffered two defeats at the hands of the Sullys. So, maybe he will find common ground with the Fire Clan and start to work. Being pure evil, he’d totally fit into their group as well.

He’d master the fire rituals, become even better at killing, and bring the war to Jake! This may be the only way he could dominate against Jake and Neytiri after losing to them twice.

Parker Selfridge

Avatar (2009) had Giovanni Ribisi’s Selfridge playing a smaller villain to support Quaritch. He only got a small cameo in The Way of Water. But producer Landau told The Wrap that Selfridge will return to Pandora in The Seed Bearer as he said:

“I think we’ll definitely see more of the RDA as we move forward. We know that Giovanni’s coming back as Selfridge. We hinted at him with just on a video clip in this movie. But he will be back in force as we move forward.”

It’ll be interesting to see if the concept of Unobtanium also returns with him.

General Frances Ardmore

Recom-Quaritch was welcomed back to Pandora by General Ardmore (Edie Falco), a SecOps general for the RDA. Her role in Avatar 2 wasn’t very significant. But the Avatar: The High Ground comics revealed that she played a huge part in the events that took place between Avatar (2009) and The Way of Water.

Ardmore led the humans back onto Pandora by battling Jake and the Omaticaya after they were sent back to Earth in the previous film. She gained control over Hell’s Gate and gave the humans a strong foothold on Pandora once again. Hence, she will undoubtedly have a crucial part to play in Avatar 3.

Scoresby

Captain Scoresby

In Avatar 2, Brendan Cowell portrayed Scoresby, a cunning and vicious RDA Tulkun hunter. Everyone assumed he would have died after Payakan ruthlessly tore one of his hands off in the movie. But that is not the case as a statement from producer Landau confirmed that Scoresby will be back in The Seed Bearer!

Till now, he had been successful in hunting down Tulkuns. So perhaps he could continue to do that after getting his own recom-body similar to Quaritch. But it’s also likely that we’ll only see him in flashbacks as his return could just be about diving deeper into the concept and uses of Amrita.

Honorable Mention – Spider

Quaritch and Spider

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Spider actor Jake Champion spoke about the shocking change in his character arc in The Seed Bearer. He said:

“I was very shocked by [Avatar 3]. It just takes a hard left turn, and that’s not a bad thing. You think you know where it’s going, but then a wrecking ball comes. So you’re completely like, ‘Oh wow, I never thought that would’ve happened.’”

So, maybe he meant that Spider will turn into an antagonist because that was clearly set up by Avatar 2. After what he did towards the end of Avatar 2, he might be forced to become the bad guy in the next one. We saw him and his father’s clone grow close and even have empathy for one another. That’s why, despite all of Quaritch’s sins, Spider couldn’t leave him to die.

He ultimately went back to the Sullys but Neytiri would never accept him. And after finding out how he saved Quaritch, he could be rejected by Jake and Lo’ak as well. That’s what could push him toward his father and eventually, the Ash people. Avatar 3 could turn him into a villain of the future to go up against Lo’ak. That way, the sons of Jake and Quaritch will carry the franchise forward.

Avatar 3 will arrive on December 20, 2024.
