It was in January 2022 that Euphoria’s season 2 premiered. But since then the series’ potential third season has been facing one disaster after the other. From the unfortunate deaths of two cast and crew to reports of alleged toxic sets, the Sam Levinson series has been delayed again with a script in development.
Yet fans reckon that this new news of delay is just a cover-up for the alleged cancelation of the hit show. As fans are busy bickering whether the show should come back or not, and as the leads of the show are busy climbing the ladder of success elsewhere in the industry, one anonymous Euphoria star has blamed HBO for damaging their career.
Euphoria Star Blames HBO For Damaging Their Career
Ever since its premiere, HBO’s Euphoria has been busy navigating the clouds of controversies. First, it was the backlash over its depiction of mature themes like dr*g abuse and then later it was over alleged toxic conditions on set that garnered the interest of the internet (see DailyBeast).
And now it is over the extensive delays in the production of season 3 after Variety recently revealed how the upcoming season has been delayed yet again. While fans think the show is going to be canceled, one anonymous Euphoria star blames HBO and contractual obligations for damaging their acting career with constant delays in production.
“Since January of 2022, we have had a start date of March that turned into June, that turned into January. And then they kept pushing every month from then on. It was two full years of HBO telling all the actors we were going back soon, so we couldn’t take some jobs.”
Stated the actor to Daily Beast. While HBO did not respond to the claims, Levinson’s team did state to the news site that a third season is still in the works, slated for 2025.
Euphoria Star States Constant Delays Made Them Lose Momentum
Euphoria, other than portraying the horrendous reality of high school, also propelled its lead actors to immense fame. While Zendaya was already a pretty well-known name in the film industry, there is no denying that the show made her even more famous.
While Sydney Sweeney went on to star in the sleeper hit Anyone But You and entered Sony’s Spider-verse, Jacob Elordi has catapulted into a rising star for his roles in Saltburn and Priscilla. The same can be said for pretty much every other actor on the show.
However, one anonymous Euphoria actor revealed to the Daily Beast that saying no to TV and other projects after the success of season two of the show has made them lose momentum.
“Before last week I couldn’t take any TV jobs. Since they have put it on hiatus, I can now take any job. But what sucks is that we all had more momentum right when the show came out but now it’s been 2 years of waiting.”
While actors like Zendaya, Elordi, and Sweeney’s careers have hardly suffered from the delay, lesser-known actors’ careers would indeed have been majorly impacted after refusing projects one after the other. Since TV is a proven medium to propel an actor to success and fame, saying no to TV shows would have certainly been detrimental to the unknown actor’s career.
Yet while the anonymous actor does not believe the show will be coming back, they are hopeful for the sake of their career.
Meanwhile, Euphoria can be streamed on Max.
