Euphoria has been one blockbuster of a series. Despite its overtly s*xual content and portrayal of dr*g usage and the criticism following it, the series has gone on to earn several awards and nominations, including Primetime Emmy Awards. Not only did it carry several moral lessons along with its mature theme, but the series propelled its main stars to the very top of Hollywood’s social circle.

Suffice to say, fans have been waiting since January 2022 for season three of the hit show. Despite it being slated to be released in 2025, a new statement by HBO confirms that the season is delayed even further, making fans believe it is never going to come out.

Back in November 2023, HBO announced that season 3 of Euphoria would be released in 2025. Stated to be based on the experience of Zendaya‘s Rue exploring what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world (via Variety), the third season hasn’t even started filming yet.

And now, as per the latest update by Variety, HBO stated that season three of the show is still in development.

“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season. In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

This announcement comes right after there were rumors that the studio has scrapped the third season in its entirety. Apart from the apparent developmental cloud facing the series, the studio has witnessed other problems, too.

From reports of alleged toxic crew and sets (via The Daily Beast), to the SAG-AFTRA strikes delaying its production, the series has also had to deal with the untimely death of Angus Cloud back in July 2023.

Having launched some of the most amazing actors into the limelight, including Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney, fans of the show are worried that season 3 of Euphoria might have been canceled in its entirety.

Ever since the Sam Levinson-created show started premiering, Euphoria has been making rounds for how well it grapples with the theme of teenage drug addictions and more. While it did receive quite a lot of backlash for its mature depiction, it has nonetheless gangrened a huge fan-following who have been religiously waiting for its third season.

With season three of Euphoria delayed even further, fans are convinced that they might not get another season at all.

With so much delay, it would be hard to figure out whether much of the original cast will return or not, adding more woes for fans. After HBO’s statement drew widespread fan backlash, some fans even added how it would be better to cancel the show altogether.

While there has not been any further update from the studio or the actors, only time will tell what the future looks like for Euphoria.

Meanwhile, Euphoria can be streamed on Max.
