The 1994 cult classic, The Crow, is in the works for a remake. It has already stirred up both excitement and concern among fans of the original. There’s anticipation to see how Bill Skarsgård will portray the iconic character Eric Draven, yet there is also angst from those who believe the 90’s flick should remain untouched.

The OG film tells a dark and gothic story of revenge. In a crime-ridden city, Eric Draven, a talented musician, and his fiancée Shelly, are brutally murdered on the eve of their wedding. A year later, Eric is brought back to life by a mystical crow.

Fueled by love for Shelly and a deep desire for justice, Eric becomes a supernatural being known as The Crow. Guided by the crow, Eric sets out to track down and punish their killers — a ruthless gang led by the sadistic Top Dollar.

The film is a visual feast, with a distinct goth-inspired aesthetic. Brandon Lee’s performance as Eric Draven is both haunting and charismatic.

Fans are Unsure About The Crow Remake

Back in 1994, The Crow didn’t make a big splash right away. But over time, it gained a loyal cult following thanks to its dark themes, Brandon Lee‘s iconic performance, and tragic story behind his death while making the movie.

The 2024 new remake of the film aims to bring a new perspective to the story, with Bill Skarsgård playing Eric Draven, a murdered seeking vengeance.

But some fans aren’t sure about it, with some feeling the new design strays too far from the original film’s dark aesthetic. The tragic death of Lee during the filming of the 1994 movie further fueled this sentiment, with some viewers calling the remake insensitive.

During the making of the film, on March 31, 1993, Lee tragically died due to an accident with a gun on set. What happened was a leftover piece from a previous scene got stuck in the gun’s barrel, and when a blank was fired, it caused a serious injury that led to his death.

Originally, it was set to release on June 7, taking the place of another movie named Ballerina. It’s not the only movie facing a change in release dates. Another movie, the horror sequel Saw XI, has also been moved to September 26, 2025, which is a year later than planned.

If The Crow was supposed to come out in June, it would have been up against the Will Smith starrer Bad Boys: Ride or Die. However, now it will contend with a thriller titled Blink Twice and a faith-based movie called The Forge (releasing on the same day).
