A glimpse into the next Gears of War might just be a couple of months away. The Coalition, the developers of the game, are said to be working on one, and rumors suggest it will be the continuation of the last mainline game’s story. The first three Gears of War games focus on Marcus Fenix, while the following games pick up different protagonists.
One of the successful game franchises, it has earned over $1 billion for Microsoft. The last game in the series, Gears Tactics, was released in 2020. It was a turn-based game where the story is set up after Emergence Day, a planet-wide assault on Sera. Since then, the series has remained dormant.
Industry Insiders Are Hyped for Gears of War Synchronously
Amid the debates surrounding Gears of War 6, an industry insider, Nate Najda, aka Shinobi602, indicated that the upcoming game may blow people’s minds through its visuals. He commented on a forum discussion centered on another upcoming game, namely Hellblade 2. “Wait until you see Gears. People aren’t ready lol,” his comment reads.
The Coalition started ramping up the efforts for the game in January 2024 when one user spotted a few individuals whom the company had hired for the development. This included an Environment Artist, Senior Lighting Artist, Associate Producer, and Cinematic Animator. Some leaks in the past suggest that the game will be coming in around 2026. However, as the conversations are heating up, we will likely see it during the next Xbox Summer Showcase.
In a podcast dubbed Kinda Funny Xcast, other reliable voices in the gaming industry, including Parris Lilly and Jeff Grubb, discussed the game’s arrival. Their claims were seemingly supported by Tom Warren, the senior editor at The Verge.

Hope It Won’t Pull of a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3
Given that multiple industry insiders have started talking about the next game in the humans versus mutants saga, the odds of Gears of War 6‘s showcase in June 2024 appear imminent. However, one must not take it as gospel, despite how reliable these insiders are. It may be a different game set in the same universe.
Another rumor that surfaced last year suggested that the game may take an open-world approach. If that’s the case, here’s hoping that it won’t do anything like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. In that case, the fate of the game may run into deterioration like the CoD franchise did. Now the fans are hoping that the next game in the franchise will turn the wheel.
The Xbox Summer Showcase is Microsoft’s major event and typically puts forth major gaming announcements. Given that the last mainline Gears of War game arrived four years ago, that makes it one significant development if any has happened over the years.
