X-Men ’97, the upcoming animated action series that would be another addition to Marvel’s shows on Disney+, is facing a lot of hype and anticipation from fans worldwide. However, fans have also been victims of doubt lately, following the news of creator Beau DeMayo getting fired from the series, with no official statement explaining why.
While one of the reasons behind this unexpected dismissal cited by Sneider was allegedly his OnlyFans handle, further details have emerged. According to recent scoops by industry insider Jeff Sneider, an insider has given him further reasons behind this sudden change of plans, including allegations of DeMayo being “an absolute nightmare to deal with.”
Apparently, Beau DeMayo wasn’t the easiest of people to work with
Since Beau DeMayo was a Marvel regular who had worked on the masterpiece Moon Knight along with early drafts of the upcoming Blade series, fans were left completely shocked and in immense doubt about the upcoming X-Men ’97‘s credibility following his dismissal.
However, recent reports from Sneider just may explain why he was actually fired so unexpectedly. According to his report shared on The InSneider, an inside source seems to have described DeMayo as a nice but hard-to-work-with person. The source reportedly said:
“[DeMayo] is a nice guy, but impossible to deal with. Like, truly an absolute nightmare to deal with on a daily basis. He’s been really annoying them [Marvel leadership] for a while now, and it has nothing to do with the fact that there’s a lot of diversity and LGBTQ stuff in X-Men. It’s just that he’s really prickly and difficult to work with.”
While that’s that, another reason cited by the insider was reportedly related to the fact that the proud gay Black creator of the upcoming series had a non-explicit Only Fans handle. According to insights by Jeff Sneider,
“This insider also suggested that DeMayo’s activity on Only Fans did not go over well with his Disney bosses, who found some of his behavior ‘creepy.’”
That being said, the recently fired Marvel regular has had quite a history of being “very active in the fanbase and [knowing] what to say to piss fans off,” as one Tumblr user @bamf-jaskier said with a series of follow-up threads emphasizing this statement.
Nonetheless, fans are still having doubts about this recent revelation. Many of them counterargued and seemingly have mixed opinions on the upcoming series, which will revive the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series from the 1990s, as well.
Fans have mixed opinions on the credibility of X-Men ’97 now
Ever since news broke out about DeMayo getting fired out of the blue despite lining up for press, making plans to attend the series premiere, and even reportedly “discussing loose ideas” for a season 3 with his team (as per THR), fans seem to be having second thoughts about X-Men ’97.
What’s more, the recent revelations from Sneider have only fueled their doubt regarding the credibility of the upcoming follow-up series to 1992’s X-Men: The Animated Series. Thus, taking to X, here’s how fans are reacting as of now:
Why choose to fire him after writing of S2 done 😗…. You could have done it so much earlier…..

It's incredible that they fired him for having onlyfans, Disney is so ridiculous

Really but he has been with marvel for quite some time now so all of a sudden he was a problem sounds like they passing the buck again and getting ready for another failed project

Paragraph 1 is legit fired for cause. Paragraph 2 is just personal feelings. And potential wrongful termination suit material.
Let's see what else comes out.— Chillin in the Basement (@hetch75) March 15, 2024
Nightmare to deal with… but they dealt with it til a week from the premiere and dropped him like a bad habit? Corporate pettiness is not for the faint of heart.
— Dixon Stroke (@StrokinAway) March 15, 2024
WHAT COULDVE HE HAVE DONE ON ONLYFANS TO BE CONSIDERED CREEPY????

Keeping all these fan reactions along with the recent revelations in mind, it seems only an official statement from Marvel or Beau DeMayo could bring this turmoiled situation to a close.
Meanwhile, X-Men ‘97 premiers on Disney+ on the 20th of March, 2024.
