Helldivers 2 is pretty popular indeed; numerous players are enjoying this third-person co-op sci-fi shooter to the fullest. Games don’t get so popular without being good, and Helldivers 2 is without a doubt a very good game. It features fast-paced shooter mechanics that put players in an arena full of enemies that are both challenging and incredibly fun to combat.
But not every game can have it all, and not all gamers want to understand this. Helldivers 2 is currently missing a major feature that is part of many of the recently launched games. But how important is it for a game like Helldivers 2?
Developers explain why Helldivers 2 does not have stealth mechanics
Arrowhead Game Studios is doing most of the things right. They have made an excellent game that is very fun to play. Players are given a large arsenal of weaponry, heavy weapons, explosives, and much more.
They are asked to take different kinds of enemies head-on. Some of them are robots; others are dangerously large and agile bugs, some of whom can even fly now. The thing that ties this experience together is the co-op mode. Players can combat this incoming challenge alongside their friends.
But one thing they cannot do is approach these enemies quietly and complete their mission with stealth. This is something that many players are missing in this popular game. Stealth mechanics have become integral to games nowadays. Many games, whether action or any other genre, just do the best they can to include stealth in their games.
The Last of Us, Uncharted, and even Gears 5 added stealth to their mechanics to make gameplay more dynamic. Its popularity is such that Ubisoft too decided to reintroduce stealth to their popular Assassin’s Creed series after sticking to basic parkour and some action for at least three games.
But there’s a reason why stealth is not part of Helldivers 2. Arrowhead Game Studio CEO and Helldivers 2 creative director suggested that they wanted enemies to feel realistic, hence they decided not to include stealth in it.
It’s not really that we have stealth gameplay, it’s just that everything just has to make sense. All of the enemies they have hearing, sight, they also have like an approximation of smell within a close radius. It’s just like if you’re in proximity to some of the units that are very sensorily aware, like the Stalker, they will detect you no matter if they can see you.
It’s an interesting thing to know, and it makes sense too; it’s an online game where others are watching their friends play. The feel of this fast-paced environment goes to shambles when someone decides to take it slow and hides around the enemies on a battlefield full to the brim with them.
Still, smell simulation is something that’s a unique mechanic indeed. It’s not unheard of, but it’s rarely seen in online games. Kudos to Arrowhead Game Studios for trying something new.
It would be interesting to see what they bring to Helldivers 2 next
While Helldivers 2 lacks proper stealth mechanics, it would be interesting to see where the developers take this game next. They have created a massively dynamic world with this game that keeps on developing, changing, and keeping things challenging for gamers.
It would be very interesting to see how this game changes next. It would be hard for the developers to turn the evolution of those bugs into flying ones. In light of this evolution of bugs, fans are eager to see what Helldivers 2 has in store for the Automatons, enemies that are robots. Maybe they would too start getting some upgrades?
