Stephen Amell has always proven that he’s one of the best actors out there. From playing the drug dealer and criminal extraordinaire Garrett Kelton in Code 8 to portraying the North-West Mounted Police officer Wynn Delaney in When Calls the Heart, he has exhibited his acting chops in a variety of roles.
But he’s best known for playing Green Arrow in all eight seasons of The CW’s Arrow from 2012 to 2020. The series was a big hit, leading to other superhero shows like The Flash and Supergirl.
No one can deny the fact that Amell has always brought his A-game to the role. Now, he has a condition for James Gunn if he wants his character back in the DC Universe. But it’s not clear if this could ever happen.
Stephen Amell’s Immutable Demand for Green Arrow’s Return in DCU
Stephen Amell, the actor behind the hood in The CW’s Arrowverse, revealed what could lure him back to play Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in James Gunn‘s upcoming DC Universe.
During a chat with MovieWeb, Amell got hit with the question again: Would he suit up as the Emerald Archer for the DCU? To this, the Gemini Awardee replied (while looking curious but also happy with how he acted before):
“I don’t know. I think it would be really helpful to maybe see like a frame of footage from one of the movies before I decide if I want to be a part of it. Because I loved playing Oliver Queen, and I don’t feel like being in the cinematic universe would validate that character. You know, we did eight seasons, we did 170 episodes, and I wouldn’t change a thing. So, you know, if he calls, great, if he doesn’t, fine!”
The 42-year-old said that to come back as Green Arrow in the DC Universe again, he wants to see some footage from one of Gunn’s movies first. He really enjoyed playing Oliver Queen in the Arrowverse, but just being in the movies isn’t enough to make him want to join.
The actor is happy with the work he did on Arrow. So, if the co-CEO of DC wants him in, that’s cool, but if not, that’s okay too. Amell simply seeks validation for his character in the DC Universe. However, his return might never happen.
Because now, with the Arrowverse wrapping up with A New World, Part Four—the series finale of The Flash—in 2023, there’s no chance that Amell will ever make a comeback as our favorite emerald archer.
The Flash ended after nine seasons, making it the final series set in the Arrowverse Earth-Prime. The CW decided not to continue with the spinoff series Justice U, so there won’t be any new shows on Earth-Prime after The Flash finale.

Stephen Amell is trading in his bow and arrow for a suit and tie for something more practical. He has snagged the lead role in Suits: LA—a spinoff of the legal hit show, Suits.
Four years after Arrow wrapped up, the Canadian actor sliding into Suits: LA feels like the perfect fit after his run as Oliver Queen. In the upcoming spin-off series, he will play the role of Ted Black — “a charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others,” as per the official description (via Deadline).
He was recently seen in Calamity Jane, in which donned dashing long locks to play Wild Bill Hickok — a legendary figure of the era. It’s a film inspired by real events.
It seems fans will have to wait sometime to see Amell as Ted Black in Suits L.A. Meanwhile, they can watch him as Green Arrow in all eight seasons of Arrow on Netflix and Calamity Jane on Prime Video.
