Although Sterling K. Brown was the first name announced when revealing the nominations for the 96th Academy Awards, he doesn’t think he’ll make it to the podium to hold the prize. This hesitation stems from the fact that Robert Downey Jr. is also listed as a nominee in the category for Best Supporting Actor. And Brown thinks that Downey Jr would likely win, and he is completely fine with it.
The Oppenheimer actor has absolutely obliterated his opponents this awards season, having already bested Brown at the Critics Choice and Golden Globes. Brown believes that the trifecta will be complete with Downey winning the Oscar. As for some of the Barbie fans who still cannot fathom Margot Robbie not being nominated, they might have to reconcile with the possibility of Gosling losing the award to an Oppenheimer actor.
Sterling K. Brown Predicts Robert Downey Jr. Will Win the Oscar
The buzz surrounding this year’s Oscars has been significant, to say the least, with discussions focusing on both the names present and absent from the list of nominees across various categories. Sterling K. Brown, nominated for American Fiction in the Best Supporting Actor category, shared on The Graham Norton Show recently that he believes he is going to lose the award to Robert Downey Jr. for his outstanding Oppenheimer performance.
And Brown reveals there is no bad blood behind this, he is absolutely a fan of Downey, just like the rest. Thus, the This is Us actor believes Downey’s performance as Strauss is something that should be celebrated. Hence, Brown would be happy to lose an Oscar to the legend, as he revealed on the show (via CBR),
“I know that I’m not going to win,–Yeah, and I’m fine with that. Totally fine with it. I’ll tell you, Robert Downey Jr. is going to win. And he’s incredibly deserving. He’s an incredible actor. You should give him love. The fact that I get a chance to be nominated along with him, and [Robert] De Niro, and Ryan Gosling, and [Mark] Ruffalo. I’m just happy to be in the room.”
Although this isn’t the first time the Iron Man actor has been nominated for an Oscar, it would indeed be his first win if he clinches it. Previously, he was nominated for Tropic Thunder and Chaplin. Brown is happy just to be in the room with incredible talents, being a fan himself. However, some people who might not be happy are Barbie fans still upset about the snub.
The Margot Robbie-Oscar Snub Continues to Upset Fans!
One thing that continues to upset people is the fact that Margot Robbie was snubbed from this year’s Oscars. Although Ryan Gosling losing the Best Supporting Actor category to Robert Downey Jr can also be seen as a significant loss for all the fans, Kens all over the world unanimously agreed on how incredible Robert Downey Jr was in the film. There is simply no one who could argue that the actor is not deserving.
Given the situation, Margot Robbie recently shared her thoughts on the matter, she said at a Los Angeles SAG-AFTRA discussion,
“There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed,”
And speaking of the Greta Gerwig snub, she said,
“What she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing,–What she pulled off, it really is. But it’s been an incredible year for all the films”
America Ferrera has also earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Overall, the film has received nominations in eight different categories. Everything will be revealed at the March 10 ceremony when the winners are finally declared. Margot Robbie herself couldn’t be more proud of what Greta Gerwig has created and is incredibly happy that, at the end of the day, it’s a win for cinema!
