Although a majority of the critics seemingly deemed it unworthy, the original Fantastic Four film series is still regarded as one of the best adaptations ever created. This is because even though a lot of people had issues with the plotlines, pretty much no one had any issues with the cast which included Chris Evans’ widely acclaimed fan-favorite embodiment of the Human Torch as well.

In fact, Evans’ performance as Johnny Storm so deeply influenced the viewers that even someone like Joseph Quinn, who would be continuing the character’s legacy in the upcoming reboot, couldn’t help but praise him. But while he holds him in wide regard, Quinn has also made it clear that his portrayal of Johnny wouldn’t be the same, but rather, something he creates on his own.

Joseph Quinn Shares His Take on Chris Evans’ Human Torch

Nearly two decades after Chris Evans gave one of the best performances of his entire career in the shoes of Johnny Storm, someone else will be taking on the mantle from him to carry his legacy forward. And this time, that someone else is one who truly admires Evans’ portrayal of the character.

Plus, this someone else is none other than the fan-favorite Joseph Quinn, who played the role of Eddie Munson in the Stranger Things lore, and is now reportedly taking on the responsibility to play the Human Torch in MCU’s upcoming F4 reboot film.

According to what the 30-year-old actor shared in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“I remember really enjoying Chris Evans’ performance as Johnny in the previous films, and it felt like this would be a really exciting opportunity; I was absolutely signed up.”

Well, it’s only a good thing that the next person playing Johnny in the F4 lore has been inspired by the iconic performance of Evans. But does that mean his version of the character would be the same as Evans’? According to what Quinn clarified:

“No. I mean, you’re going to make it your own.” Still, he added, “It’s big boots [to fill].”

Okay, knowing that we won’t be able to see the character with the same vibes back again seems slightly disappointing, to be honest. But then again, we’re talking about Quinn here, so we’re sure he’ll manage to leave us star-struck with his performance at the end of the day.

Continuing during the same interview, the Game of Thrones actor also expressed just why he agreed to join the cast for the upcoming F4 reboot film. And one of the major things compelling him to join was the distinctiveness of the project.

As per what he shared in the interview:

“I think that with the story of the Fantastic Four, it feels like we want to get this right,” Quinn said. “There are aspects of it that are very different to other Marvel films. That felt very compelling to me.”

But that wasn’t all. The star-studded cast of Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm), and the mastermind filmmaker Matt Shakman‘s involvement was what further induced him to board this ship.

As Quinn continued to express:

“And again, going back to who’s involved, Matt [Shakman], of course, the director, I think is brilliant, and the cast, and I’ve read it and the script is brilliant. It’s really brilliant. I’m delighted to have this opportunity.”

Judging from his words, it seems like Joseph Quinn has truly taken this on as an opportunity of a lifetime, and would presumably not be letting this golden chance go to waste.

So far, everything about the F4 remake sounds like it’s worth waiting for!

Fantastic Four currently holds a release date of the 25th of July, 2025.
