The upcoming Daredevil: Born Again is one of the most anticipated entries in Phase 5 of the MCU. After some middling projects and restructuring its upcoming slate, the studio is aiming to win back the audience with well-made, satisfying projects going forward. Charlie Cox is returning as Daredevil along with his partners Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson.
Jon Bernthal was also announced to be returning as the Punisher in the series. While this is exciting news, fans were worried that the grittiness and brutality of the character might be watered down due to the show’s placement in the MCU. However, it seems the show is still going to retain the tone that fans loved as new set photos have shown a bloodied and intense look at Bernthal’s Punisher.
Set Photo From Daredevil: Born Again Shows the Glorious Return of Punisher
Jon Bernthal‘s Punisher series was loved by fans as they got to see a character-driven show presenting a feared vigilante who is not afraid to employ brutal means to deliver justice and fight crime. With the news of the character joining the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again reached fans, they were over the moon thinking about all the exciting possibilities it would bring.
The MCU has slowly embraced more mature content and tone with some of its shows like Echo and Moon Knight. However, they haven’t committed to the level similar to the hard-R tone of the Punisher series which is integral to the type of character he is. Understandably, fans were concerned that the studio might alter the DNA of the character to make it more accessible to young fans.
However, as seen from new set photos from the show, Bernthal is making sure to retain the gritty and dark tone of the character. In a photo posted on X, Bernthal’s Punisher is shown bloodied and bruised as he stares with a certain level of intensity. Punisher’s arc in the show is not known as of yet, but one can expect Bernthal to have a significant presence in the show. Fans are expecting a team-up of him and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the show, to go up against Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin. Fans should wait for official statement’s from the studio or Bernthal to learn more about Punisher’s role in the show.
Daredevil: Born Again Directors Consumed Every Daredevil Material for the Show
Charlie Cox‘s Daredevil: Born Again is currently in production and showrunner Dario Scardapane and lead directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead are making sure that the show turns out great. Benson and Moorhead who have already directed other MCU shows like Moon Knight and Loki season 2, talked to The Wrap about their approach for the show.
The director revealed that they are consuming each and every possible Daredevil material including the comics, and the Netflix show. They are making sure that all information related to the character is imprinted in their head as they head on to work on the show. Moorhead said,
“We’re currently just consuming Daredevil content, not just the Netflix show but all the possible material. We’re just making our stew of information nice and thick.”
In addition to Cox, Daredevil: Born Again will also star Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Michael Gandolfini, Sandrine Holt, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Wilson Bethel. The series will have 18 episodes that will be divided into nine-episode halves and released separately (via The InSneider). The series will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2025.
