Known for starring in the Netflix original Stranger Things, Joseph Quinn is set to headline author and screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis’ directorial debut with the horror film Relapse. The British actor captured the hearts of fans worldwide with his portrayal of the enigmatic Eddie Munson in Stranger Things Season 4 and is set to star in the upcoming A Quiet Place prequel spin-off A Quiet Place: Day One.
While there has been anticipation for his return in the fifth and potentially the final season of the Netflix show, his commitment to the horror genre signals a departure from the nostalgic setting of Hawkins, Indiana, leaving viewers wondering if Eddie Munson’s return is in jeopardy.
Joseph Quinn to Lead Bret Easton Ellis’ Directorial Debut
Joseph Quinn appears to be carving out a niche within the horror genre, having secured notable roles in acclaimed series like Stranger Things and the upcoming film A Quiet Place: Day One. And the British actor is now set to lead Bret Easton Ellis’ directorial debut with the horror film Relapse.
The American Psycho author, whose books have been adapted into several movies and TV shows, has also worked on the screenplay of movies like The Informers, The Canyons, and Smiley Face Killers. And the author-screenwriter is taking on the directorial duties for the first time for Relapse.
“I grew up watching the iconic horror movies of the 1970s,” the author-turned-director said, as per Variety, as he explained, “It seems appropriate that my first feature would be a horror film.” Describing it as a “monster movie with (his) signature characters—young, handsome, rich—at the center,” Ellis shared that he found the story perfect for his directing debut.
The film’s synopsis suggests that it will explore themes of paranoia and social media invasion, setting the stage for a psychological thriller. Relapse will follow Quinn as Matt Cullen who checks into rehab following a harrowing experience at a drug-fueled party. However, things do not seem as they appear upon his return to his parent’s mansion in Los Angeles three months later.
Would Joseph Quinn Return to Stranger Things Season 5?
Portraying the character of Eddie Munson, Joseph Quinn soon earned a place as one of the beloved characters on the Netflix original series Stranger Things. However, his journey soon came to an end in an epic act of self-sacrifice. Considering the show is known for resurrecting characters, fans have been hopeful for Eddie’s return in the fifth and potentially the final season of the show.
However, despite fans’ enthusiasm, the likelihood of his return appears slim, as indicated by the actor himself. “I mean, they’re shooting soon! I don’t know … I’d love to be — I died,” he said in an interview before adding, “I think it’s probably unlikely. That’s my honest answer.”
Moreover, given his packed schedule with upcoming projects like Relapse and the sequel to Gladiator, it seems unlikely that the actor would find time to reprise his breakout role. Season 5 of Stranger Things has been in development and is anticipated to be released in 2025.
Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
