According to industry insider Alex Perez, Marvel might be taking a step back from the sprawling multiversal storylines. That means Kang the Conqueror’s big reign might be getting pushed back a bit. Still, he remains central to the storyline.

Industry Insider Believes Even Though There is a Multiverse Shift, Kang Remains Central

Known for sharing scoops on upcoming Marvel projects, Alex Perez recently held a Q&A session with Cosmic Marvel. When questioned about the future of the multiverse, he revealed that Marvel is rethinking how they deal with the whole multiverse idea.

Lately, Marvel has been focusing solely on down-to-earth, gritty stories like Hawkeye and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, focusing more on street-level heroes — the ones who aren’t fighting cosmic baddies but dealing with real-world problems.

But, there is an exception with the confirmed Deadpool 3, which inherently touches upon the Multiverse due to the characters’ origins. While the Multiverse might be taking a backseat for now, the insider assures fans that Kang and his variants remain central to Marvel’s plans.

Jonathan Majors‘ portrayal of Kang in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania established him as a big bad guy, maybe even big enough to lead the Avengers in a team-up movie like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

MCU Stays Committed to Original Avengers Idea After Jonathan Majors’ Exit

Alex Perez dropped a hint that there’s another antagonist lurking in the shadows, even bigger and badder than Kang. This mysterious villain is apparently being teased behind the scenes, and they could shake things up big time in the Kang Dynasty storyline.

Perez didn’t tell who this villain is, but it sounds like Marvel’s setting up for some major showdowns in the future. He said the same during the Q&A session with Cosmic Marvel:

“It is still my impression that Marvel still wants to use Kang and his variants to face off against the Avengers, but there is one antagonistic presence that Marvel is building up to, which will impact the Kang Dynasty by the time they arrive.”

Marvel seems to be taking a thoughtful approach in refining its handling of the multiverse concept. Even though specific details are sparse, it’s evident that they’re not completely ditching the idea. Instead, they’re thinking about how to use it better in their stories.

Marvel is putting a lot of attention on Kang and hinting at an even bigger threat, showing that the Multiverse will still be important in future Marvel movies. Even though they might focus more on realistic stories for now, the Multiverse will still be a big deal. It could bring some really cool adventures and big battles in the future.
