Deadpool will be teaming up with Wolverine to save the world in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. The hotly anticipated film recently debuted its first official trailer and confirmed that the Merc With a Mouth will join forces with an alternate reality Logan who comes from a world with a dark fate.
The trailer also features a nod to Ant-Man, which is in turn connected to the world Wolverine comes from. As a result, the film seemingly took inspiration from one of the most famous alternate reality storylines featuring Wolverine in the comics. At the same time, Ant-Man’s status in the trailer seemingly confirms a grim fate for the rest of the MCU heroes.
Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer Reveals Surprising Ant-Man Nod
Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, recently dropped its first full trailer, providing viewers with a tease of its highly guarded plot details. The trailer sees Deadpool recruiting an alternate-reality Wolverine to save his universe from a certain doom. However, the duo’s quest leads them into the Void. The trailer also implies that Wolverine’s reality was seemingly erased from existence.
In the trailer, one shot features the giant head of Ant-Man, which is being used as a base by some X-Men villains marooned in the Void. Fans quickly took notice of the Ant-Man head in the film’s trailer and shared their reactions on social media.

As the tweets indicate, the shot from the trailer left fans worried about Ant-Man’s fate as many X users pointed out that the hero was likely dead. His corpse, including the giant head, was likely used as a base by the minions of the film’s primary villain, who is expected to be Cassandra Nova, the twin sister of Charles Xavier. As a result, it seems Ant-Man was killed in at least one alternate reality.
What Deadpool & Wolverine‘s Ant-Man Head Means For the MCU Heroes
The appearance of Ant-Man’s severed head in the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine quickly sparked a dark fan theory for the MCU heroes. As one user correctly pointed out, the scene was seemingly a reference to Earth-807128, which is the reality where the Old Man Logan storyline takes place in the comics.
Given that the trailer confirms Wolverine’s home reality was doomed, the reference to the Old Man Logan storyline makes even more sense. In the comics, Earth-807128 is an alternate reality where most of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Ant-Man were mascaraed during a battle with Magneto and the Absorbing Man.

As a result, the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine heavily implies that the Avengers existed in the native reality from where Wolverine originates. However, they were likely killed during a conflict, presumably with Cassandra Nova, giving Wolverine the necessary motivation to team up with Deadpool to take down the villain.
The Old Man Logan storyline was previously referenced in 2017’s Logan, Hugh Jackman‘s last appearance as Wolverine before the upcoming return. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if this version of Wolverine is somehow connected to the Logan version.
