Yuri!!! On Ice is an anime series, one of the most liked Boys’ Love series ever made, which found a lot of success when it first came out in 2016. This show was highly recognized by getting three awards at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival, seven prizes from Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and also winning the Japan Character Award.

It says that the production of the film, which was announced back in 2017, has been canceled because of some unknown production problems. Official Voice Actor Expresses Disappointment Over Yuri on Ice Movie Cancellation
The heartbreaking announcement regarding the cancellation of the highly anticipated Yuri!!! On Ice film was posted on the series’ official X (formerly Twitter) account. That too after many months of unclear details regarding the project’s situation.
The news came as a shock. But many also remember that some time ago, the film was taken off MAPPA’s roadmap for upcoming works without any official explanation.
The news has brought a profound sense of sadness to the voice-acting cast who worked hard to create the characters. Daman Mills, the official English voice for Yakov Feltsman in Yuri on Ice, expressed his sadness to this news on Twitter with a post showing how deeply he feels sorrow and disappointment for all those involved.

He expressed that he was truly looking forward to participating in bringing back this beloved character through upcoming movie production where he would lend again his voice skills. But when he heard about the cancellation, it was a big shock for him and made him very sad.
Why Was Yuri On Ice: Adolescence Canceled?
Though it is only a guess, fans think the Yuri on Ice movie being canceled might relate to present disagreements about MAPPA animation studio’s working conditions. And problems from its workers regarding insufficient pay and too much work.
In March, it was officially stated that Makoto Kimura, the producer of MAPPA’s popular shows Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen, had left. Many believe Kimura is responsible for making the studio achieve so much success.
He chose to create his own animation company instead. The departure of Kimura from being one of the most important producers at MAPPA was only a start to this situation.
After Kimura, many animators and voice actors have shown their unhappiness with the work environment at MAPPA. They feel that they are not paid enough, and work for too long hours without getting proper rest time or breaks, and definitely not proper compensation.
They believed that the overall compensation was insufficient in view of how much money the company has made from its best-selling anime over the past few years. This situation has unfortunately contributed to an image problem where it seems like MAPPA doesn’t give sufficient importance to its workers.
