With the upcoming Deadpool film having a multiversal narrative, it is sure to have some big X-Men cameos and callbacks to the history of Marvel films. Additionally, the film’s events are also expected to set up an important narrative thread for Secret Wars, which will completely reboot the MCU. An underutilized character from the X-Men films may be the key for all this to happen.

The multiverse saga of the MCU has been a hit and a miss with several disappointments and a few hits. The studio suffered a big blow when it lost its big bad Kang. The MCU is now expected to return with a bang with Deadpool & Wolverine, which will in turn set the stage for the upcoming Avengers films.

With Avengers: Secret Wars down the line, one wonders how the preceding films will build up to the film and how Secret Wars will reboot the MCU. As Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to bring most of the X-Men characters, one of the franchise’s most underutilized characters may become a major player in Secret Wars.

Shawn Ashmore played Iceman in X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, the character had a rather insignificant role in the films and his full potential was not explored, compared to how extremely powerful he is. As explained by ComicsUnlocked on YouTube, Iceman is an Omega-tier mutant. He is on the same level as Jean Grey when she has the power of the Phoenix force.

In the comics, he once turned the entire world into ice and even froze hell entirely. He can even freeze and evaporate the blood of his enemies, killing them instantly. If he similarly unleashes this power in the climax of Secret Wars while fighting the main villain, he can wipe out every being in the MCU and bring the MCU to a halt.

In this way, the character can usher in a new era of the MCU after Secret Wars. While it is unlikely to happen, it is nevertheless a great theory that makes use of the character in a great way and ensures that audiences realize his true potential.

“I got to meet Kevin Feige, and I was surprisingly starstruck. I was a little bit like, oh my gosh, it’s him. Which I was surprised that I was. But it’s very cool to see those minds together. You know, him, Kevin’s obviously completely changed the industry, and then Ryan who’s such a genius, like them combining their power, it’s pretty exciting.

Ryan is definitely like, you know, calling him out a lot at the moment. There’s a lot of Kevin jokes [in the movie]. You have to have a good sense of humor and he does. So that’s cool.”

Ryan Reynolds, being the writer of the film will surely crack jokes at the MCU and its current state. His reunion with Wolverine is also going to be a treat for fans. The film will hit theatres on July 26, 2024.
