Fans have high expectations surrounding the upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. From being curious to know which beloved characters will get reintroduced in the MCU from Netflix’s Defenders Universe, fans are simultaneously losing their mind over the appearance of Jon Bernthal as The Punisher.
According to reports, it has been stated that while confronting or collaborating with Matt Murdock, Frank Castle will also be hunting down bad cops who use his Punisher symbol to perform crimes. Meanwhile, as Daniel Richtman confirmed this report, netizens appear upset with the controversial Punisher storyline.
Daredevil: Born Again Brings The Punisher to the MCU
Ever since Netflix canceled the whole of Defender Saga in 2019, fans have remained upset about the sudden end of their favorite shows. But with the appearance of Charlie Cox‘s Daredevil in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movie, fans became hopeful about the future of the Defenderverse. Thereafter, as Marvel announced working on Cox’s Daredevil: Born Again, fans simply lost their minds.
Hoping to see more characters from the Defenderverse being reintroduced in Daredevil: Born Again which will eventually lead them all to MCU, fans are seemingly holding onto their breath in excitement. Surging people’s craze over the upcoming show some more, leaked photos from the set recently revealed the reintroduction of Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher in Charlie Cox’s series.
According to the storyline set for the fan-favorite Punisher, it has been reportedly revealed that the character will have an impactful role on an individual level. While either assisting or confronting Daredevil, Frank Castle will have an interesting sub-plot where he would be hunting down bad cops who use his skull symbol to perform atrocious crimes.
Controversial Punisher Storyline Might Upset Fans
Although there is no official confirmation on this storyline, most outlets are reporting the same after industry scooper Daniel Richtman allegedly confirmed the news. Corroborating to Daredevil Updates’ post where they shared an image of Jeremy Earl as the supposed bad police officer Cole North on the set of Daredevil: Born Again, Richtman confirmed that the show is certainly doing the dirty cops and Punisher storyline.
Following this confirmation from the scooper on X, the platform went crazy as people started expressing their disappointment in the same old storyline that aimed to villainize law enforcement officials. However, amid the online outcry, it seems the alleged storyline can further upset the police who have been using Punisher’s symbol during several protest rallies and fundraising programs.
What good comes from villainizing people who serve our communities? I'm sure Jonathan Diller's family will love it!

Although this use of the Punisher symbol by law enforcement officials was previously criticized by Gerry Conway, as it represented the failure of the Justice system, it was never paid much heed to. Sharing his thoughts about the use of the logo by the police, in an interview in January 2019 with SyFy, Conway claimed,
“Whether you think the Punisher is justified or not, whether you admire his code of ethics, he is an outlaw. He is a criminal. Police should not be embracing a criminal as their symbol.”
Now it seems, the Punisher is turning his back against the very community who previously used his symbol, as their own. Therefore, it is believed that the Daredevil: Born Again plot for Frank Castle can upset a few die-hard “fans” of the character. However, amid controversies and disappointment over The Punisher’s storyline, there’s still hope for the character and the show, as true fans keep expressing their excitement over the narrative.
