The Crunchyroll Anime Awards is inevitably one of the most anticipated award shows by anime fans throughout the year. However, this year’s results, which marked the 8th awards ceremony organized by Crunchyroll, haven’t been much different from last year’s when it comes to the accolade for the Anime of the Year. Why? Because Jujutsu Kaisen has once again scored that award!
However, this year’s Crunchyroll Anime Awards results haven’t turned out to be very appealing to a lot of anime fans. While the Jujutsu Kaisen fans are over the moon after hearing this news, other anime fans like those of Vinland Saga and Chainsaw Man are anything but excited about it all. If anything, they’re infuriated that their favorite animes did not get a chance to win.
Jujutsu Kaisen Bags the Anime of the Year Award Once Again
This year’s ceremony marked the 8th Anime Awards organized by Crunchyroll and was as eventful as all the ones preceding it. The results announced were decided from 34 million votes that were cast by anime fans and a panel of international judges.
But while many are satisfied with this year’s results, there are still a lot of fans who are discontented with these results. Or, to be more precise, these fans are unsatisfied with just how much priority was given to Jujutsu Kaisen in multiple award categories, especially that of the Anime of the Year.
For the second time, Gege Akutami‘s fan-favorite anime has managed to bag the Anime of the Year accolade for its stunningly rated second season. What’s more, is that there are numerous other award categories that Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 has come victorious in.
This includes accolades for the Best Character Design, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Action, Best Supporting Character (Satoru Gojo), Best Opening Sequence, Best Ending Sequence, and Best Voice Artist Performance categories.
However, while Jujutsu Kaisen fans are heartily celebrating these massive wins, fans of other animes are not so optimistic about it all. Especially fans of anime like Vinland Saga and Chainsaw Man; both of which were also nominated in the respective category.
Instead, Chainsaw Man only won in the categories of Best New Series and Best Voice Artist Performance (English) while Vinland Saga ended up scoring 0 accolades despite being one of the biggest fan favorites — something that has gotten anime fans deeply infuriated.
Fans are Unhappy Over Other Animes Not Given Preference
Anime fans are in great anguish over the results announced of the 8th Crunchyroll Anime Awards. Mostly because they feel that Jujutsu Kaisen was given more preference than it deserves and that other animes like Vinland Saga and Chainsaw Man were not given preference enough.
Taking to X, here’s how they are reacting to this news:

Vinland Saga robbed for so many awards.
It's easily the most impactful and beautiful anime of 2023 and it won nothing.
I hope @Crunchyroll change the voting process next year because it's the current format is awful— Ryan Jolly (@ryanxreid) March 2, 2024
Well, for one thing, Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 most certainly deserved the Anime of the Year award. However, at the same time, Chainsaw Man and Vinland Saga were equally deserving candidates for the accolade.
Thus, since this debate pretty much leads to a dead end or a tie between the three, we’ll let fans decide just who is the most worthy of this distinctive award.
You can stream Jujutsu Kaisen and Vinland Saga on Netflix, while Chainsaw Man is available for streaming on Hulu.
