Helldiver 2 is currently at the top of the popularity chart; numerous fans are playing this game. And, unsurprisingly, the number of fans is continuously increasing. The biggest reason for this game’s success is its constantly changing world. This live-service game’s lore keeps on getting thicker with every mission that players complete.
This is most evident now that players have completed a massive and crucial mission. This mission is called Operation Swift Disassembly, and it has changed the galaxy of Helldivers 2 forever. By completing this mission, players have successfully eradicated all the automatons. And now that one of the most dangerous factions in the game is no more, players cannot help but wonder what’s to come next.
What new challenge is coming for Helldivers 2 players?
Operation Swift Disassembly does what it says: it helps players swiftly disassemble the hold of Automatons on this galaxy. It looks like Super-Earth has finally won this long, ongoing battle, and humanity is free from any threat for now.
As everyone is aware, Helldivers 2 is a live-service game and a dynamic one at that. It keeps on changing, all thanks to the very infamous Game Master Joel. He is the one in charge of keeping all the game’s players on their toes.
Hence, fans cannot help but wonder: What is it that Joel has in store for them this time around? The game is now left with only one enemy faction, and that is the Terminids. Bugs that come in all shapes and sizes.
This has caused fans to come up with an interesting theory. Maybe the Illuminate, which players think of as the third most dangerous faction, will finally show up. For those unaware, Illuminate was the third faction in the game’s prequel, Helldivers 1.
They were said to have been eradicated by humanity a long time ago. But every now and then, players would get a hit at the possibility that they were in fact coming. Players can hear a random radio message saying, “Super Earth lied…they didn’t want you to know…the Illuminate…they’re coming.”
A while ago, a Helldivers 2 fan also noticed an odd thing that hinted at the return of Illuminate to the world of Helldivers. This player called Dye335 suggests that a while ago they were hit by a random sniper round when no enemy was there. Suggesting that this was an Illuminate sniper who just teleported after attacking.
“Out of nowhere I got hit with a vibrant blue laser shot, almost resembling a sniper round, from an angle that would suggest a high angle shot. Wearing heavy armour I got knocked down 60~% hp immediately and very lightly ragdolled just maybe a foot backwards.
It must have been an Illuminate Sniper just like in the first game, and it (the sniper) must’ve teleported out immediately after the shot. I wish I was screen recording at the time or had anything like that set up.”
On the other hand, some suggest it’s the Hive Lord skeletons that would finally show their faces in Helldivers 2. They are known for being very nifty, with the ability to dig tunnels through the map for new hives.
They are said to be extremely dangerous, making players lives a hell before getting defeated. Hence, players better start preparing if it’s the Hive Lords making a comeback.

Arrowhead Game Studios is usually pretty vocal about what they would or would not want to bring to their game. But they have not made any commitments about a new kind of enemy in Helldivers 2. Of course, they would start dropping hints before they announced anything, as they usually do.
But of course, they too might want to take a break before making any big changes to the game. Let the players bask in the glory of their recent success before giving them the shock.
