Nami’s Generous Offer in Chapter 654 of One Piece
Chapter 654 of One Piece shows the Straw Hats leaving the shores of Fish-Man Island. The ship heads towards the waters of the Grand Line’s second half. As the ascent continues, Nami shows her ‘Shower Tempo,’ a move that generates a rainy cloud atop her for a makeshift shower head.
She invites Chopper to try it, but he turns her down flat. Instead, he compliments the cloud and calls it sweet and tasty. It probably reminded him of cotton candy.
“No, I’m good! I wiped myself clean two days ago.”
His comment immediately attracts attention as Brook and Sanji come over to peek at what’s happening. While Sanji passes his typical lewd comment, Nami commands her cloud to shock Sanji.
Why did Chopper turn Nami down in Chapter 654 of One Piece?
Chopper’s behavior confused a fan, given how Nami is a beauty and is a constant source of attraction for Sanji. Eiichiro Oda answered the question in a panel of chapter 665. He first explained that it’s perhaps because he is an animal. Wiping his body counts as a bath for him.
“Sometimes, the men of the crew have a Great Bath Party together and get really rowdy. Chopper gets invited to bathe with the ladies a lot, but he prefers the men’s parties.”
It turns out that Chopper is often invited to bathe with the ladies, probably because he is an innocent animal with no perverted thoughts tucked away. Given that he is a fun-loving nakama, he could also entertain the women when they bathe.
However, Chopper prefers bathing with the men purely because of the chaos they cause. They can be rowdy as much as they want, and Nami or Robin would not be able to school them. After all, Chopper is still a male and might be craving the effortless comfort and rowdiness that comes with a gathering of men.
Still, the other crew members are bound to be jealous of Chopper because he can enter the women’s bath with no worries. The fact that he lacks any kind of interest in human females is easy to forget. (Especially in the case of Sanji.)
