Zack Snyder made fans very happy when he announced that he is very much interested in finishing his Justice League trilogy. After his tumultuous experience with the 2017 film and the long-overdue Snyder Cut, the filmmaker is now ready to tackle the matter.
After the release of his Netflix original project Rebel Moon, Snyder has now a way to turn his plan to continue the Justice League story, albeit with slight differences in format and storyline. As Warner Bros is very strict with the rights of DC characters, the director would have to be very creative.
Zack Snyder Wants To Finish Justice League Trilogy
During an interview with Empire Magazine via Screen Rant, director Zack Snyder was asked if he would love the idea of finishing Justice League 2 and 3 through animation. As there are no confirmed reports yet regarding this speculation, Snyder was very confident to say:
“Yeah, absolutely. That’d be fun. That’d be cool.”
No one knows if Snyder is truly gearing towards wrapping up the trilogy in the near future, as he has been very busy focusing on his latest project, Rebel Moon. Still, he shared in an interview via Cultura Ocio:
“If Netflix had owned the rights to the DC characters in my extended universe, of course, I would, absolutely, whatever.”
Scott Stuber, President of Netflix Films, was genuinely happy to hear about Snyder’s plan, though he noted that it still needs to undergo through formal process in order to bring his DC characters over to Netflix.
“Obviously we would love to license it at some point. We’d love to have it so fans can experience more Zack. The more Zack we have, the better we are.”
Of course, this can be done as long as Snyder considers the animated Justice League project. Warner Bros might not let him take the rights of the characters he used to work with before, but what he can do is create a brand-new franchise based on the DC figures, tweak their backstories a bit, and then he can do whatever he was planning to do with the postposed sequels.
The animated format also allows Snyder to have more creative freedom. He can bring a Justice League-inspired story with so much gore and violence, something fans don’t usually see in regular comic book films.
Zack Snyder Could Get Some Inspiration From James Gunn
James Gunn got very creative with his own take on Superman through the release of the 2019 horror sci-fi movie Brightburn. The film follows a child from another world who crash-landed on Earth. Superman, who shared the same backstory, became the savior of mankind, but this child turned into something wicked and dangerous.
Snyder could take some notes from Gunn’s technique after he brought his own narrative about Superman into the big screen without even touching the character. This will avoid any conflicts the Sucker Punch director has with Warner Bros.
It’s nothing new anyway for Snyder as he already did the same recycling of concepts when he helmed Rebel Moon out of his own scrapped idea for a Star Wars movie.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is available to stream on Max.
