Sukuna’s intense obsession with Megumi has become a meme material for Jujutsu Kaisen fans. In fact, it is also a pretty popular fan-fiction genre. However, as the Jujutsu Kaisen manga progressed, fans got a rude awakening regarding why Sukuna was so interested in Megumi.
After Sukuna took over Megumi’s body and faced no resistance, everyone realized that their romantic delusions had been crushed under Sukuna’s vintage feet. In fact, Sukuna’s choice of a new host has just revealed a new fact about Megumi.
Yuji was Created to Host Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen
Yuji was hailed as the one-in-a-million-choice guy who would be able to host Sukuna. However, the perspective changes in chapter 143 of Jujutsu Kaisen when Yuji’s parents are revealed. Yuji’s mother, Kaori, had a scar on her face, similar to Suguru Geto, which means that she was under the control of Kenjaku.
This leads to the speculation that Yuji’s birth was orchestrated. He was created to host Sukuna from the very beginning. This proves that Yuji was never the one-in-a-million guy who was able to host Sukuna naturally. Instead, he was just an engineered body.
This is probably why Sukuna was not able to completely take over Yuji: He was not a natural vessel. It seems like a natural vessel would completely surrender to Sukuna, and Yuji did not serve the purpose.
Megumi is the Real One in a Million Chance of Sukuna’s Vessel in Jujutsu Kaisen
At the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen, Megumi explains that if Sukuna’s fingers are consumed, then the person has a one-in-a-million chance of incarnating him, that is, if they survive the deadly poison. When Sukuna took over Megumi’s body, it was finally revealed that Megumi was the rare guy who could host Sukuna.
Yuji was created to serve as Sukuna’s vessel, so he does not count within the natural probability. Megumi however, was born to one of the strongest families who possess strong techniques. He himself is a toughened sorcerer and has won over extremely strong curses.
Thus, Itadori was never the rare guy, he just got to Sukuna’s finger first. However, Sukuna himself recognized Megumi’s potential when he began observing the fellow.
Kenjaku and others could not determine who was the best vessel, but it turned out that Sukuna could. So he bid his time and waited until Yuji had the most fingers and waited for the best opportunity to transfer to Megumi.
Sukuna knew that Megumi was a natural vessel, and if he transferred into Megumi, he would not face any restrictions like in Yuji’s body.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the “one in a million chance” is not a proven statistic; it is just a made-up number by Megumi, who was trying to explain the rarity of the phenomena. Megumi just had sufficiently strong genetic and physical makeup to handle Sukuna.
