Marvel Rivals is an upcoming game, inspired by the competitive nature of Overwatch, and features a plethora of Marvel heroes and villains. NetEase has been working day and night ever since the existence of the game leaked days prior, and it dropped an official teaser image that featured obscure heroes from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse.
While not the full lineup, there are a significant number of famous heroes and heroines set to appear in Marvel Rivals.
Into The Spider-Verse Heroine Will Appear In Marvel Rivals
Peni Parker appeared in both Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse films in a supporting role, and has been reduced to a background character with a short cameo and one line in the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but NetEase is giving her due in their game. This information was later confirmed when the character appeared in the game’s official trailer.

Members of the X-Men, Avengers, and Guardians of the Galaxy are featured in the leaked screenshot from the game’s hero roster page. There is a strong possibility that more and more heroes as well as their counterparts from different points of the Multiverse could be added in future updates.
It wasn’t long ago when information about this Marvel multiplayer was roaming the corners of social media, but it is coincidental that NetEase is now ready to share complete details.
This could all be good news, especially after the leaked trailers of the canceled Insomniac project titled Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Great Web, which would have featured the Multiverse and its infinite number of Spider-Men and Spider-Women. NetEase could fill in the void and provide a greater focus on heroes like Peni even with their game structure.
Marvel Rivals Is Acknowledging The Spider-Verse
The superhero genre is slowly taking over the video game industry after asserting dominance in Hollywood, with upcoming games like Marvel’s Iron Man and Marvel’s Black Panther that are being published by EA. Insomniac Games is also working on Marvel’s Wolverine and the recent trailer for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra from Uncharted creator Amy Hennig and Skydance New Media would all suggest a diverse variety of gaming options.
Insomniac would have also introduced the Other, another obscure and less popular character in Spider-Man: The Great Web, but it seems the character will not be getting his moments of recognition in this format, perhaps NetEase can alleviate fan’s disappointments with their project as they put characters like Peni in a more prominent role.
While it is still early to judge how the game could be received, it is a welcome surprise to have another title that features everyone’s favorite team of superheroes. Inspired by the success of Overwatch, NetEase and Marvel could have a contender in the competitive multiplayer section of gaming through Marvel Rivals, while also highlighting heroes like Peni Parker.
