The merc with a mouth has officially entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as the studio dropped the teaser for Deadpool 3 today. His first encounter with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine doesn’t appear friendly as he pulls his claws out after Wade Wilson cries for help. Nonetheless, a partnership is likely between them as the narrative unfolds this July.
Being one of the characters who have broken the fourth wall in the Marvel universe, he could also be of prime importance in its gaming segment. After excelling in films and TV shows, the superhero franchise is also establishing its roots in video games. With products like Midnight Suns, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, and more already at its disposal, success shouldn’t be a far cry for them.
Deadpool 3 Might Just be a Beginning
Although multiple characters have broken the fourth wall, Deadpool has used this ability more overtly than others. Furthermore, this has become one of his hallmarks across the Marvel universe. With Time Variance Authority (TVA) appearing in the movie, one thing is certain, time travel! He could do similar in the gaming segment too.
From Iron Man to Blade, there is a whole fleet waiting to be unleashed by Marvel. Though the multiverse is not yet a concept in consoles, the merc with a mouth may pull multiple heroes from different games to face an ultimate threat if something like that comes up. For now, there’s only a table-top multiverse game where players follow a narrative set forth by a player.
Perhaps it could be more like a console war rather than a multiverse war. With features like cross-progression, it will be interesting to see characters encountering each other throughout multiple consoles. Something similar to what Across The Spider-Verse did. It featured the Spider-Men from the PlayStation and the comic books, and it even had a Spider-Rex in the phenomenal chase scene.
Could One Below All Be The Next Big (Literally) Baddie?
Since Thanos, Marvelites are still awaiting the next big baddie in popular culture. Jonathan Majors Kang The Conquerer was supposed to take this throne but destiny had some other plans for him it appears. What’s more, the situation has sent the studio in a fog as to whom to choose as the phase six baddie. But the gaming segment has a chance to pull someone like the One Above All straight out of the comics.
Deadpool can then use this chance to move from one Marvel gaming universe to another to assemble a team to face an ultimate threat. But that would be the case when One Above All manifests its demonic entity, One Below All. Nonetheless, Deadpool might be walking on thin ice here as people taking him seriously is a bit sporadic. This said, he has to be more convincing than he usually is.
With power, comes great responsibility. But with abilities like breaking the fourth wall, there comes a curse of knowledge that Stan Lee, the beloved editor who helped Marvel comics rose to new ranks, is at peace now.
