Keanu Reeves In Talks To Join Marvel's 'Eternals'

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming Eternals movie has been recently grinding the gears of the rumor mills after the reports that Angelina Jolie has signed on for the leading lady role of Cersei. Now, Game of Thrones alum Richard Madden has reportedly been cast as Ikara and now John Wick star Keanu Reeves has been in talks with Disney for a role in the upcoming Marvel cosmic movie.

While talks for “a mysterious role” are reportedly in the early stages, the rumors alone are enough to get the fandom buzzing with joy. Given Reeves recent success as action hero John Wick in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and its huge opening box office weekend, Disney and Marvel Studios are definitely keen to make the action star part of the MCU family. It could be a solid selling point to promote the MCU’s future after the recent conclusive Avengers: Endgame left the franchise’s fate open and so far largely unknown.

Reeves has recently hinted at wanting to return to rival company DC to reprise his former role as master of the dark arts, John Constantine, after his first outing in 2005’s Constantine.

Eternals has not yet started production; however, the project has been gathering momentum in the last year not only with the casting of Angelina Jolie, but also the promise of the MCU’s first openly gay LGBT superhero. While no official report has been made as to who this character will be, rumors have circulated that Olympian Hercules will be the potential choice.

The most recent reports have circulated around Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden, most famous for portraying Robb Stark in the hit HBO series. He has been linked to the character of Ikaris whom the movie is set to focus on along with Sersei, who Angelina Jolie is set to portray.

In the Marvel comics, the Eternals are a subspecies of the human race, similar to the Inhumans and Mutants, who originate in the Antarctic city of Olympia but have also populated Mercury’s moon Titan, home of supervillain Thanos.

Matthew and Ryan Firpo have been hired as screenwriters for the movie, with Chloé Zhao set to direct. Filming was originally set to begin in August 2019 in Atlanta, but was later pushed to September 9, 2019 for unknown reasons and will most likely last until January 2020.

Richard Madden can currently be seen starring in Elton John biopic Rocketman.

Keanu Reeves is currently starring as the titular action star in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
