First Social Media Reactions for ‘The Lion King’ Praise Visual Effects

The Lion King Social Reactions

Disney has been pumping out live action adaptations at full force this year. The live action remake of the 1994 original cartoon: The Lion King, marks the third and final (unless you count Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) Disney classic turned live action blockbuster of the year.

Tim Burton’s Dumbo (2019) and Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin (2019) found success financially, with the later exceeding even Disney’s expectations, though were unable to land with critics. The Lion King (2019) is the one adaptation that critics and audiences have been keeping an extra close eye on. The original film is regarded by some to be one of the best animated films ever made.

Before taking a stab at this fan favorite film, Disney needed to be sure the technology needed to realistically depict talking lions and hyenas not only existed but could be honed and utilized effectively. Disney took a stab at this technology and chose Iron Man (2008) and Elf (2003) director, Jon Favreau to helm 2016’s The Jungle Book. Favreau has taken what he learned on that film and applied it to The Lion King (2019), which doesn’t feature a human character at all.

The Lion King (2019) looks to follow in The Jungle Book (2016)’s footsteps with an impressive voice cast that includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Seth Rogan as Pumba, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Oliver as Zazu, John Kani as Rafiki, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, and James Earl Jones returning as the voice of Mufasa.

Those lucky enough to attend the world premiere were allowed to give their initial thoughts on the film on their personal social media accounts. Critics and press are praising the film on its amazing visual effects, endearing vocal performances by its star-studded cast, and excellent music.

Looks like Jon Favreau has managed to pull it off!
